Precision for crops growing at an angle

Cabbage often initially grows along the soil surface before straightening up and forming its head. Fennel and celery also tend to lean to one side. The challenge: The true point of plant emergence must be detected precisely so that the selective knives open and close at exactly the right moment without damaging the crop.
The AI camera system detects exactly where the plant emerges from the soil even when plants grow at an angle, weed pressure is high and operating speeds reach up to 5 km/h.

Powerful selective knives for maximum soil coverage

The hydraulically controlled selective knives of the Zurama operate powerfully and dynamically. They move precisely around the crop plants instead of closing only once between them.

This allows the Zurama to cultivate a very large proportion of the soil surface and target weeds effectively, even where conventional hoeing technology reaches its limits.

Up to 98% soil cultivation: For fewer remaining weeds, precise in-row hoeing and significantly less manual labour in the crop.

Flexible adaptation to row spacing and growth stage

The Zurama can be adapted quickly and easily to different row spacings. From a row spacing of 45 cm, a separate machine unit with duckfoot shares can be added to cover inter-row cultivation cleanly.

For row spacings below 45 cm, the duckfoot shares are mounted directly on the selective module. This keeps the machine compact and precise in operation.

More clearance for larger crops: The current clearance is 29 cm high and 16 cm wide. From 2026, both dimensions will be increased by 5 cm, allowing larger crops such as white and red cabbage to be hoed at later growth stages.

Hoeing strategy with the Zurama

The first hoeing pass is generally carried out 2–3 weeks after planting. After that, hoeing continues at regular intervals, or at the latest when the weeds have developed around 4–6 true leaves.
Flexible use through to later crop stages: As soon as the crop canopy closes within the row, the Zurama’s selective modules can be folded up. Hoeing then continues only between the rows, still with automatic row guidance.
Ridging bodies can also be mounted on the duckfoot shares. This allows soil to be moved into the row to control weeds within the row even at later growth stages.
